The format and the content of this book will be extremely similar to those of Walt's People. This should be a bible for Disney historians. A "must-have".

Probably some uninteresting socio-babble. We will see.

Poggi, Stefano: La vera storia della Regina di Biancaneve, dalla Selva Turingia a Hollywood published by Raffaello Cortina Editore; 2007.
In Italian. The author explores the connections between Uta, Margravess of Meissen, a mediaeval aristocrat, patron of the Cathedral of Naumburg, and Ghrimilde, the evil queen from Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. These connections are inspired to the author by the strong similarity between a statue in the Cathedral of Naumburg and the famous Disney villain during a trip in 1999.

Boring.

One more biography of Walt by someone who knew a lot of artists who worked with the Old Mousetro. A very enjoyable read.

Lehman, Christopher: The Colored Cartoon: Black Representation in American Animated Short Films published by University of Massachusetts Press; 2008.
Based on new interviews, this is a very good book.

McKinnon, Robert J.: Stepping into the Picture: Cartoon Designer Maurice Noble published by University Press of Mississippi; 2008.
Maurice Noble was one of Disney's and Warner Bros.' best cartoon art directors. The book that started as his autobiography, co-written with Robert McKinnon is one of the events of 2008.

Martin, Stacia: The Sounds of Disneyland published by Disney; 2005.
A splendid book that came in a special box with 6 CDs. A "must-have".

Marling, Karal Ann: Behind the Magic - 50 Years of Disneyland published by The Henry Ford Museum; 2005.
Beautiful catalog of a splendid exhibition.

Kobayashi, Shinichiro: Tokyo DisneySea published by Tokyo Disneyland; 2007.
A fabulous art-book by award-winning Kobayashi.

Hans' book about production design in animation. Considering the amazing talent of Hans Bacher and the work he did on such beautiful movies as Mulan, it's no wonder that this book is already a must have for serious animation enthusiasts.

Written in Italian, this books is especially interesting due to the interviews with Diane Disney Miller, John Hench and Marty Sklar.

Given, Anders: Jakten Pa Onkel Walt: Fire Nr-Disney-Opplevelser published by Cappelen; 2001.
Written in Norwegian. Mostly sociological theory about Disney, save for a good chapter about the author's visit to Barks.

Rosental, Eduard: Die kleine Mickymaus und die grosse Politik published by APN; 1984.
Written in German, this is probably the German equivalent of the infamous How to Read Donald Duck and probably only contains left-wing political analysis of Disney.

A story of Disney songs development that will include large sections about the Disney songs that "never were". Heavily illustrated. Definitely be a "must have" for serious Disney historians. Hard cover book with around 300 pages. The initial print run is limited to 1000 copies. If the book is successful there will be a second volume that will cover the Disney productions after the death of Walt.

Malmberg, Mel: The Making of Hong Kong Disneyland published by Disney; 2007.
This book was given to cast members and never sold to the general public, making it very difficult to find.

Ridgway, Charles: Spinning Disney's World: Memories of a Magic Kingdom Press Agent published by The Intrepid Traveler; 2007.
Charles Ridgway was Walkt Disney World main press agent for many years and this book is a very enjoyable read.

Winnie viewed by various Disney artists. Similar idea to The Art of Mickey Mouse. Nice to have.

A spectacular catalog published to coincide with the special exhbition of original Disney art held in Tokyo at the end of 2006.

Kurtti, Jeff: Disney Dossiers - Files of Character from the Disney Casting Department published by Disney Editions; 2006.
A book about Disney characters that contains quite a few never-seen-before documents and is a nice-to-have for both adults and kids.

Pinkerton Josephson, Judith: Walt Disney - Genius of Entertainment published by Enslow Publishers; 2006.
Another biography of Walt for kids.

Not only is the research in-depth, the book itself is well written and a page-turner. A "must have."

Lambert, Pierre: Walt Disney, l'Age d'Or published by D�mons et Merveilles; 2006.
Slim text (in French) but beautiful artwork, as ever. The book covers Disney's animated features from Snow White to The Jungle Book. For really hard-core fans, unfortunately, the number of truely "never-seen-before" documents is slightly disapointing.

Girveau, Bruno (curator): Il Etait une Fois Walt Disney published by RMN; 2006.
The catalog of the best Disney exhibition ever exhibit, taking place at Le Grand Palais in Paris starting on September 15, 2006. Contains a large quantity of marvelous never-seen-before artwork as well as in-depth texts by Charles Solomon and Robin Allan among others. A "must have."

Dahl, Roald: The Gremlins published by Dark Horse Publishing; 2006.
Reprinting of the original book illustrated by Mary Blair and Bill Justice, with an introduction by Leonard Maltin. Short on never-seen-before documents about the project, however.

Turner, Harold: Filmguide's Handbook to Cartoon Production published by Film Guide; 1940.
One of the most difficult to find books about animation. Contains very large sections about Disney.

De Hui, Zhong: My Disney Collection published by Guo Shi; 2002.
To my knowledge, this is the first Disney-related book in Mandarin Chinese. No other interest than this, though. A simple catalog of one guy's Disney collection of modern Disney items.

Gerstein, David (editor): Disney Comics: 75 Years of Innovation published by Gemstone Publishing; 2006.
The equivalent for comics of what the Walt Disney Treasures DVDs are to regular Disney DVDs. A must have for any Disney comics enthusiast. Contains good editorial material. Should hopefully be the first of a very long series.

Andrae, Thomas: Carl Barks and the Disney Comic Book: Unmasking the Myth of Modernity published by University of Mississippi Press; 2006.
The quality of Thomas�research is excellent. This book is a must have for Barks enthusiasts.

Finnie, Shaun: The Disneylands that Never Were published by Lulu Books; 2006.
A first foray into a fascinating aspect of Disney history, that would deserve a great art-book or an in-depth exploration by a serious Disney historian. An excellent start, though. Pure text and no images for obvious costs and rights reasons, unfortunately.

Jones, Wesley: Mousecatraz published by E.J. Communications; 2006.
Stories from cast members. Fun, but not very interesting.

Baham, Jeff: DoomBuggies.com Presents the Secrets of Disney's Haunted Mansion published by Lulu Books; 2006.
If you have the book by Jason Surrell about the Haunted Mansion, this one is not really necessary.

Mongello, Louis A.: The Walt Disney World Trivia Book, Volume 2 published by The Intrepid Traveler; 2006.
Volume 1 was excellent, this one is too.

Jones, Angie; Oliff, Jamie: Thinking Animation - Bridging the Path Between 2D and CG published by Course Technology PTR; 2006.
A bit technical, but the number of former or current Disney artists contributing to it (Eric Goldberg, Floyd Norman, Tony Bancroft,...) make it worthwhile for readers that are not also animators.

Leydier, Richard (editor): Mickey dans tous ses Etats published by Hotel Dassault; 2006.
The small catalog of a French exhibit of modern art with Mickey as its central theme. In French. No much interest.

Not much that does not appear in other Disneyana guides.

Rhode, Joe; Revenson, Jody; Eiserloh, Alex; Putvin, Jennie: Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain published by Disney Press; 2006.
Short, but excellent. Only available at the parks, unfortunately.

Let�s add that, because of its high price ($165) and its very specific focus (Bill Tytla) it is advised that only the most serious Disney historians buy it To do so, send an email to Howard Green.

Fanning, Jim: Cinderella - A Dream Come True published by Disney Editions; 2005.
This book is part of the special DVD set released in 2005. It deserves to figure in this list as it features a nice little section about the making of Cinderella, including a few interesting documents and quotes.

For example who is Albert Sweitzer, Mark Twain, and more!) Brian McKim (Sam, McKim's son) illustrated a lot of portraits for the chapter the includes all the windows on Main Street. A short biography and portrait is drawn and readers will find the inside jokes written on the second floor windows." This could be a very nice read.

Knowing the usual quality of Jason's research, this book about the creation of story and screenplay for animated features will probably be excellent. I am clearly looking forward to getting ahold of it.

A great book. A rarity : a sociological book which also happens to be very interesting and well written about the Disney Studios (and a few other animation studios) and its relationship with the European intellectuals.

Pontius, Larry: Waking Walt published by Writer's Showcase Press; 2002.
I do not usually list novels on the Disney Books Network but this one is special and can almost be considered as a reference book. Written by a former Disney executive it depicts a situation where Walt has been resurected to help run the Company as it faces troubles. A "must read".

An exeptionnal book that will definitely become a classic among Disney historians. An absolute must have. Almost as essential as the biography of Walt by Bob Thomas.

Nader, Ginha: Walt Disney - Um Seculo de Sonho published by Editora Senac; 2000.
A series of three Brazilian books in Portuguese about the history of Walt Disney. The first volume is a biography of Walt, the second discusses the Disney Company and the thirs focuses on Walt Disney World. A good introduction for readers who only speak portugese.

Kunz, Karl-Ludwig; Sidler, Roger : Kriminalpolitik in Entenhausen published by Helbing & Lichtenhahn; 1999.
A serious analysis of the Disney comics detective stories. In German. Too dry for me.

Grote, Johnny A.; Berner, Horst : Thanks Carl ! - In Memoriam Carl Barks published by Ehapa Comics Collection; 2000.
A splendid homage to Carl Barks in German. Contains some great drawings by artists all around the world paying a tribute to the Duck Man, including Uderzo, Loisel, Daan Jippes,...

The first biography of Walt written in Russian.

Bonifer, Mike: The Art of Tron published by Simon & Schuster; 1982.
A nice softcover book about the making of a revolutionnary movie. Some good artwork (including drawings by Moebius and Syd Mead) but the book is unfortunately too short.

Bonifer, Mike: Dick Tracy - The Making of the Movie published by Bantam Books; 1990.
A short softcover book. The text is excellent, the illustrations are a bit less interesting.

A well documented small book in Italian without illustartions about the copyright problems of Disney comic book artist. Not very kind to the Company. Contains interviews with artists Luciano Bottaro, Don Rosa and Marco Rota.
